Take time to Slow down!
Have you ever felt that once your feet hit the floor in the morning you just don't stop until you realize it is time for bed again? I had a very poignant moment the other day when I was driving to an appointment. I was driving, not too awake yet and wondered, “Did I put the dog in the house before I left?”
Next thing I knew I was being pulled over by a police officer and I was given a ticket for speeding. He was very nice, asking me did I realize I was going ten miles per hour faster than the speed limit and if I was in a hurry somewhere. All I could do was stammer that I was very sorry I didn't even notice my speed, I was thinking about the dog at home.
After the officer checked my registration and license, he gave me a ticket and told me to slow down. I will always remember this because he paused a moment, looked at me and said,” Please Mam, slow down and take your time”.
Wow! I got a ticket! He was so nice though. I had the usual thoughts where one rewinds the event and complain how others drive faster than I do and such. It dawned on me though that I had been moving through life like a whirlwind lately. Trying to hurry and get everything done. (The dog was ok by the way).
Even one of my family members said if I didn't slow down I was going to fall out. Well, here I am teaching others to take care of themselves and I am cruising at full throttle. I better cool my jets and enjoy the sunshine for a bit. That is exactly what I am doing. I have been stopping every few minutes of writing this article to love on my dog and later after I am done I will throw the ball for him and just chill out.
I guess I mentioned before that I have roses. I am going to make it a point to stop and smell them every now and then. I also will take a few calming moments a few times a day to center myself.
I hope that my experience and sharing it will be of help. Take a few moments for yourself. Recharge, unwind and do what makes you happy. You and everyone around you will be in a better place.
With this in mind, I am creating a Slow Down Program. For those of you that wish to participate, join my email list to get one weeks’ worth of these messages. If you enjoy them, you can sign up for the 30 day Program.
